Periodontitis or periodontal disease is a set of inflammatory conditions that affect the tissues around the teeth.
In an early stage, called gingivitis, the gums become red, swollen and may bleed.
In an aggravated form, called periodontitis, the gum pulls away from the tooth, forming pockets between the tooth and the gum.
The teeth become loose and must be removed or they may fall out.
The infection of the periodontal pockets is eliminated with careful curettage, cutting-edge biomaterials are added to help restore the bone mass decreased due to the disease and, last but not least, the gum is brought back to its original level using specific technical sutures. Often in the early stages of periodontal disease it is sufficient to perform descaling and brushing
The whitening effects obtained with the whitening lamp last from 6 months to 2 years, depending on the hygiene maintained. The treatment involves carrying out the required number of whitening sessions until the desired effect is achieved. For optimal results, the The medical team recommends a professional sanitizing treatment for the first whitening session: ultrasonic scaling, air flow and professional brushing.
The active treatment of periodontal disease is only surgical, in the situation in which the periodontal pockets exceed 4-5 mm.
Healthy teeth do not mean cavity-free teeth. Periodontitis is evolving, with a specific end: tooth loss!
Young patients are not protected from bacterial attack and implicitly from periodontitis. The active treatment of periodontitis is only surgical, in the situation in which the periodontal pockets exceed 4-5-6 mm. Periodontitis cannot be cured, surgery prevents its evolution.
